Slightly Untraditional

Making tea time fun means we can create out own unique experience.
No fine china cups? Use what you have, even a favorite mug will do.
No tea cakes? Cut up a candy bar or other confection on hand and make finger sweets.
If you have a frilly hat, put it on, sip your tea, munch your goodies, and enjoy!

Tea Shops and Parlors

It's always fun to browse a tea shop. Most have a large variety of tea to choose from, along with teapots, tea sets, and tea accessories.  Some sell goodies to have with tea, such as scones and tea cakes. A few have a tea bar where you can linger and have a cup of hot tea too. If you're looking to sit and sip, a tea room or parlor would be more your 'cup of tea.'
Check your phone directory or go online to see if there's a tea shop in your area.
As an example, here is what I found in New York City: http://www.bbcamerica.com/anglophenia/2014/04/10-places-to-do-tea-in-nyc/

Afternoon Tea Hats-

There are so many wonderful hats to choose from to make afternoon tea that much more fun. Department stores tend to charge a high price for nearly the same styles as the more economical priced choices at various discount stores.  I got mine in TELCO for under $10.00.
